Easter 2009

For Easter we went over to JG and VV's house for a yummy brunch. Jane told jokes and charmed everyone.

"Boy, do I have a funny joke for you."


"Hmmm...what's over there?"

"Oh, where was I... oh yes, why are potato chips considered uncool?


Because they're always hanging around a bunch of dips."


"I'm so funny."

Getting into the swing of it

This month Jane's interests became more apparent to us. They include: silky blankets...


...wearing faux fur capes...


...playing with Duncan the pink giraffe...


...blowing bubbles...


...hanging out with Meme...


...and VV...


...curling up in Dad's shirts...


...talking to her mobile...


...being cute (in a chipmunk-ish way)...


...and watching the Teletubbies.

Meanwhile, Chris and I attempt to work as much as possible.

But that is not always the easiest thing to do.



Fortunately, Chris keeps things interesting.

February/March 2009

While Jane slept soundly, we experienced a level of exhaustion this month.



But we were rewarded with her first smiles, which were (and continue to be) so much fun.



She also unveiled her very comical frown.

We gained a new appreciation for rocking chairs...


...and pacifiers.


Anxious to start showing Jane our favorite haunts, we took her on a walk at Sunset Cliffs where she studied the ground then fell fast asleep without ever seeing the ocean.


She did, however, have a intense conversation with Meme...

...dined with Nanny and Papa...


...and kindly posed for a photo shoot.

Jane's First Weeks

Cara and Jane -- five days old

It's kinda hard to remember Jane's first few weeks, they all seem a blur -- at least Jane was getting some sleep.



However, we want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the love, support, and generous gifts that have been showered upon us over the past year. There is no way we will be able to express our gratitude to everyone. At the risk of forgetting someone we want to specifically acknowledge: Kim and Nigel for opening up their home and throwing us a fabulous baby shower (Jane would be sleeping in a dresser drawer if it weren't for you); Ben, Bridget, Joe, Danny, Kandace, and Matt for showing up to all the events and for so warmly welcoming Jane into our families; all our aunts and uncles who showered us with generous and thoughtful gifts in anticipation of Jane's arrival; Kristen Z. for the beautiful handmade presents (especially the groovy diaper bag) and for patiently answering all our silly questions; Rick and Bernadette for sharing the experience and organizing a meal delivery for us; Jill for all the beautiful hand-me-downs, awesome information, and for doing all our consumer research for us; everyone who brought us delicious dinners those first few weeks; our grandparents who have sent wonderful gifts to feather our nest; and, to our parents whose generosity continues to overwhelm us in every respect and who have embraced Jane with so much love; and we have to give special recognition to Meme who, from the moment we told her we were expecting, has at every opportunity blessed us with the most amazing and thoughtful gifts and the most constant and loving support (there's absolutely no way we can properly thank you Mom).
